I frequently use XLink simple links, and to me, the greatest benefit is the ability (using XPointer) to link to a specific region (for lack of a better word) of an XML document without having to modify the document as you do to use a fragment identifier in HTML. This linking is independent of display (as it should be), but can be used to by an XSLT stylesheet to generate suitable HTML links. -- Paul Spencer
