I doubt whether any XML parser would have a mode to allow non-XML input. That goes against the thrust of things. Preprocess the file to remove leading blanks on the first line. (On the other hand, what you are facing is a very common problem: many SGML projects succeeded because they used OmniMark, a text processing language which allowed pre-processing files before the parser. ) Cheers Rick Jelliffe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sinha, Raj (Raj)" <rajsinha@a...> To: <xml-dev@l...> Sent: Tuesday, October 08, 2002 1:16 AM Subject: white spaces before prolog . can i work aroung it I was looking around to see if there might be a way to allow expat to accept xml files with leading white spaces before the standard <?xml version="1.0" ?> line without invoking the XML_ERROR_MISPLACED_XML_PI. I know that it is invalid to do so but this is one of those quirky requests to make the parser less forgiving for this case. Any help appreciated Thanks raj Raj Sinha 1 732 852 2077 1H-318 307 Middletown Lincroft Road Lincroft, NJ 07738-1526 U S
