If they use no XML Schema types, you have elements, attributes, text, 
comments, PIs, just as in XML 1.0. If type information is provided, it is 
used.

Example 1:

    <!-- This is a node in an input document - the node contains text -->
    <foo>1</foo>

Example 2:

    <!-- This is a node in an input document - the node contains an integer-->
    <foo xsi:type="integer">1</foo>
