And you aren't able to reset the DOCTYPE?

Is this part of the "we must do exchange blindly 
and never open the document?"  I don't know many 
people who do that.  The document didn't "nominate". 
The sender did.

Other than aliasing, do you ask relational tables 
to be valid against your schema or the schema the 
designer of the table uses?

It's a criticism of their role within the architecture. When I parse a
document, I want it to be valid against the DTD that describes my
expectations, I don't care whether it's valid against the DTD that the
document itself nominates.
