What was the problem?

On the general issue, what "context" do you need to vary the complex type
according to?   There is no way to vary complex types according to
attribute values, for example, in XML Schemas.

Also, <redefine> acts globally. You cannot redefine a type in for use in 
one context and another way in another. You have to derive new types
with different names.
