standards innovation
I thought that was why the W3C referred to its
works as "specifications and recommendations"
until someone or some group became obsessed
with "web standards"?

I wonder if the patent frenzy would be as
bad as it is if there were less "imprimatur"
and more "impress me". The patent fee would
be negligible if the thing were guaranteed to
work and selling.

Sincere congratulations to the Canadian
Hockey Team at the Olympics. Whupped us
fair and square! Great game!

Lots of food for thought here ... on the benefits of standardization, but
on the perils of casting a standard in concrete before implementation
experience is available ... and the horrible thought that "it seemed like a
good idea at the time" decisions today could haunt our great-grandchildren.
