> From: Al Snell [mailto:alaric@a...] <snip/> > Bloody clients. Never know what they want... Especially when they say "just build it and let me know when it's done", leaving all of the critical decisions to the development team. The most successful projects I've been on have been a collaborative endeavor between the client(s) and the development team. The clients were actively engaged in decision making and signing-off on small milestones along the way (although respecting the decisions of the development team on purely technical matters). My favorite book related to sofware development is "Creating a Sofware Engineering Culture" by Karl Wiegers [1]. I think it should be required reading by everyone in the IT industry, as well as anyone who is ever a client of an IT group (or at least for any employer I need to work for). (As an aside, what the hell happened to Amazon's search engine? It was an ordeal for me to get the link below. Even when I typed in the title of the book exactly, the search engine did not find a match -- but it did change my search criteria for me at one point, deciding that I really meant "with" and not "Wiegers". I really hate software that thinks it is smarter than I am.) [1] http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0932633331/qid=1010695396/sr=1-2/ref= sr_1_10_3/107-7533056-8280547
