This brings up an issue I've been wondering about recently: Should type information be consistently declared for document elements? The example Eric mentions is primarily used for overriding the element base type that was declared in an XML Schema, but xsi:type could be used even if it is no different from that in the XML Schema declaration. The reason I ask is because I've seen this done in an XML document standard in one industry (although *not* using xsi:type), and I wonder if anybody has thought through the pros and cons of such an approach?
