The press is an unreliable conspirator.  Its 
goals are not necessarily yours.  Few professions 
understand the zeitgeist as well.

Its simple.  BigCos pay millions every year just to maintain their brand and
corporate image.  All one has to do is raise enough ruckus for long enough
time to attract the media.  As soon as bad press against BigCos starts
rolling, its a simple choice for the BigCos: immediate and persistent damage
on their corporate image versus some far off and iffy revenue projection.
