[XML-DEV Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] RE: XML Database Decision Tree?
Agreed.....the intent of my original post was NOT to get information on any XML databases.....this is not my concern, I just want to know in a general sense when to XML and when not to in regards to creating database applications or storing data in databases. Why would one want to keep data in a relational format versus converting it into XML to exploit an XML database (without getting into the specifics of any one product). For new applications what are the concerns a developer would need to consider when deciding to go the traditional route versus deciding to use this new "cool" XML technology. One of our concerns is that by adopting an XML database all developers will want to use this cool new tool when in fact in has specific purposes that are not relevant for all new databases/apps. I hope you see a bit more clearly what I'm getting at. I appreciate the information some vendors have thrown at me, but to be honest, our database decision is already made, I just want a community discussion on when to use an XML database. At least someone is concerned about the mailing list not getting used as a product promotion list, even though it sounds attractive and tempting. This surely is not the list for that. Let us stay honest to the aim of the list which is focussed on the technology aspects and not the commercial aspects of the technology. We could start a separate list for *biased/unbiased* product promotions, say "xml-products" or start personal threads for communication in response to such postings. regards, -ranjeet ----------------------------------------------------------------- The xml-dev list is sponsored by XML.org <http://www.xml.org>, an initiative of OASIS <http://www.oasis-open.org> The list archives are at http://lists.xml.org/archives/xml-dev/ To subscribe or unsubscribe from this elist use the subscription manager: <http://lists.xml.org/ob/adm.pl>
