I suppose that many people have seen Simon's recent article.

Validation in RELAX Namespace is quite unique.  A non-monolithic 
document is first decomposed into islands, each of which has a 
single namespace.  Any schema language (even RDF Schema, XTM 
templates, or DTDs) can be applied to such an island.
