You certainly can. Now is the ideal time to ask for things to be 
added to Level 3, since the DOM WG and IG is starting work on 
Level 3. So please post suggestions (preferably with use cases, so 
it's easy to understand exactly what's needed) to the public DOM 
mailing list, www-dom@w....
