The BOF was largely inconclusive. I missed the first half, but my take on the event was that half the world disliked HTTP and an application protocol, the other half disliked XML as an encoding scheme, with a small but real amount of overlap between the two factions, leaving room for SOAP or a committee-invented equivalent. I am not sure we need another transport/framing protocol to complement HTTP and GIOP, yet some people seemed interested in coming up with one. I am not sure we need another encoding protocol to complement XML, CDR, NDR, XDR, and ASN.1 BER, yet some people seemed interested in coming up with one of those too.
