Hello, I am new to Stylus and am trying to publish a book. I have a 300 Megabyte word file which became corrupted via an end of tag not matching error issued by MS Word 2010. I installed Stylus and dragged the xml file (I checked all of them in the zipped MS file I created) into the text box.

I then proceeded to click on the "Validate Document" arrow at the top of the text box and associated the xml file with MSXML6.0 SAX Parser (I have no idea if this is correct, but seemed to make sense). The MSXML6.0 procedure yielded a "Msxml2.SAXXMLReader.6.0 Validation has completed" message. I then clicked on the yellow arrow next to the "Validate Document" arrow to see if the XML was well formed. It yielded the following message in all cases: "The XML document document.xml is well-formed."

Did I properly use the Stylus software? I still cannot open my MS Word document and I am going crazy at this end. Thank you very much for any advice you might provide.

Kind Regards,

bobbykel

To check if a document is properly well formed you simply click on the yellow check button. From what you have described it seems that document is well formed, therefore all XML tags are properly closed.

Is your Word document a single XML file?
What kind of error you get in Microsoft Word?

Thank you so very much for responding. The MS error is: "The file xyz cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.....Details: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag.....Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 118726872".

That is the only message I receive and have tried to open it in .docx, .doc and open formats for word....nothing works.

Hello...this is what is coming back (see error message, below). I reran the file using an old version, which corrupted AGAIN....the error is in the 4th line, below, according to Stylus. At the end of line 4, the last three characters, "w:p" are "blinking" in Stylus' text box. What can I do to fix this....thanks SO VERY MUCH!!

Hello,

Native MS Word 2010/2013 has docx extension. However it is a regular zip file.

Just copy your original file to a different location.
And rename it there to whatevername.zip

After that if you open the zip file by using proper software you will see it contains multiple sub-directories with many xml files inside.

Any of them could be damaged.
So you need to check all of them

Regards,
Yitzhak
