Gus OakesSubject: HL7 ORU group tags
Author: Gus Oakes

I converted an HL7 ORU message to XML using the .NET library. It looks like, for instance, "ORU_R01.PATIENT_RESULT" came out as "GROUP_1", and "ORU_R01.OBSERVATION" came out as "GROUP_5". Will these always be identified with the same group number, or does it depend on what else is in the file? Is there any way they can be named according to the HL7 specs?

Also, the information I found shows how to convert one file to another file. Is there a way to convert it into a memory stream or straight into an XML document object, so I don't have to save files out and then read them back in?

Thanks,

-Gus
