Subject:How to DIFF XML windows with database->XML imported data??? Author:mork afur Date:20 Mar 2008 04:12 PM
I've opened two XML windows in SS where I've used one connection to import one DB table data from one Oracle Schema and another connection to import one DB Table data from another Oracle schema. So far so good.
However, no matter what I do, I can't seem to "diff" these two windows.
It seems that SS wants disk files or folders only for DIFFing.
I opened each of the two windows using the Open..With...XML Diff.
However, this action just opened up two windows (one with each imported DB->XML data).

Hi,
in order to diff two database tables you should open both tables inside Stylus Studio (e.g. by doing a drag & drop of the tables from the File Explorer), then open a new XMLDiff window (Tools | Show Differences in ... Files), then typing in the two edit boxes the full paths that you can see in the tooltip that appears when hovering over the tab of the document (e.g. xquery:///jdbc:xquery:sqlserver://dbserver:1433;schema=dbo;table=Authors;user=sa;xmlforest=true;DatabaseName=Books;urltype=.xml)

I tried this but got a "String out of range: 7" or some type of cryptic (non-helpful) message like that.
I also tried to drag and drop a larger table and got a Java Heap Space Error.
Seems there are some usability issues here as well as outright bugs.
Diffing database tables should work like everything else and have enough memory (or a field selector to remove larger fields like CLOBS).
Thanks much for your reply...I guess the easiest way to DIFF DB tables is to write the XML representation to disk and then use the built-in Stylus Studio DIFF tools that seem to want physical XML files.
