I am an XML newbie, and am trying to do the following:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Bill_Validator>

<WMS_Mechanical link="http:\\www.wmsgamingME.com">
<Specifications link="http:\\www.wmsgamingspecs.com"/>
</WMS_Mechanical>

</Bill_Validator>

I will have 100's of documents for my final machine breakdown. Is this possible in XML? What version of your software is required, and any extra add-ons needed.

Hi, Steven. You can certainly write hyperlinks in XML as you show in your sample -- it's well-formed XML -- but I'm not sure what your objective is.

Can you tell us more about what you're trying to accomplish?

I am building a tree for a gaming machine, and like how XML allows the collapse/expand. When it expands I want the user to be able to press a subject and have a link go to the company intranet and get the correct document/spreadsheet. When I write the XML, the hyperlink does not work, it just shows up as text on the screen. How do I make it active?

Hi, Steven. It sounds like you want to use the Stylus Studio product as the GUI front end to allow your users to access mechanicals and specification documents. If that's the case, you might want to create a simple XSLT Stylesheet using the WYSIWYG Editor.

1. Use the XML document (I've assumed it's similar to the snippet you provided) as the XSLT WYSIWYG source.

2. Drag the link nodes from the tree display onto the WYSIWYG canvas.

3. Change the text value (from "link" to whatever you require; I chose "Mechanicals" and "Specifications").

4. Format as required. (I chose a simple bulleted list.)

When you preview the XSLT, the Preview window displays the hyperlinks you created by dragging and dropping. The XSLT code created by Stylus Studio looks like this:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="html"/>

<xsl:template match="/">
<html><head></head>
<body>
<ul>
<li value="0">
<a href="/Bill_Validator/WMS_Mechanical/@link">Mechanicals</a>
</li>
<li value="0">
<a href="/Bill_Validator/WMS_Mechanical/Specifications/@link">Specifications</a>
