I'm trying to reinstall v6 of Studio under WinXP. When I install r1.212 the product installs
but when I start it, it fires up the installer again. And then nothing happens. I get the spash
screen and then the Installer dialog with a cancel button. I have to use
the Task manager to kill the process.

When I try and install r1.287 it seems to install but I get a dialog box looking for a license key
I was never issued a key for the first version. Note I have been upgrading since v3.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Two separate issues here.

If Windows Installer pops up when you try running Stylus Studio, then there is a problem in the MS Office or Outlook installation configurations.
The only solution we are aware of is to use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility on MS Office and/or MS Outlook:

Running the msicuu2.exe application will clean up bogus registry settings created at some point by the Office/Outlook installers. Be aware that that may require you reinstalling Office and/or Outlook after running the cleanup utility. Please note that this not a problem caused by Stylus Studio or its installation: Windows Installer is being popped up by the system as soon as Stylus Studio tried to create an Internet Explorer editing component.

About installing upgrading to Build 287: once you have installed a fully licensed Build 212 from the CD or download image you have purchased, just update your installation using Build 287: that won't affect your license, and you will not get the registration dialog you mentioned. The registration dialog is displayed only if you uninstall your fully licensed build 212 before iinstalling the build 287 package.

Hi Dan,

I tried the approach above, but it turned out that the Windows
installer problem was not with Office. I wasted quite a bit of time installing
and uninstalling. What worked for me was to download the utility
referenced above, create a system restore point, and then begin
removing each entry in order, while starting up Stylus after every
removal. Eventually I came to the entry causing the problem
(IBM Bluetooth software) and I was able to do a system
restore and then remove only the offending entry.
