Hi,

I need to generate sample XML file from the existing XSD file.
I wonder what is the best way to accomplish this using Stylus Studio.

In XMLSpy, you can just open the XSD file and generate sample XML.
The XMLSpy asks several questions such as:
- generate non-mandatory attributes/elements?
- generate first choice of mandatory choice?
- how many elements if marked repeatable in schema?
- etc.

You can generate a sample XML file given an XML Schema in two possible ways:

- File | Document Wizards...; select "XML Schema to XML"
- Create a new XML document and choose "XML | Associate XML with Schema"

Hi,

Thanks for such a quick response!

I was looking for it in the SS help and couldn't find it.
I tried something along those lines:
- generate xml from schema
- generate xml from XSD

Probably, one more area to improve to put this option
under XMLSchema menu option.

I think you are being a bit unfair to our online documentation. But there
is no doubt that it can be improved in many ways, and, also thanks to all
the good feedback we receive on this forum, we constantly work to make it

Yes, an xml file can be generated via the mentioned methods,
but unfortunately the result is not a valid XML document with respect to the used XMl Schema,
because most values are empty. I would a better support for this if Stylus Studio would generate dummy values
for the corresponding data types, taking into account the constraints defined in
the XML Schema; i.e. ID values must be unique, etc.
In XMLSpy this is supported to some extent, But I expect Stylus Studio to do
a better job ;-).

This in my opinion a very important feature in XML Schema design.
