neal ginsbergSubject: for-each not properly displayed in xslt mapper
Author: neal ginsberg

I am running with the XSLT Mapper option to display xsl:for-each as a
line instead of a block.
In 5.3 build 179, when I connect the source and target element using the
for-each icon and then right click on the connection line, the entry for
"carry value" is not highlighted and I cannot check it. The line itself
is dark green.
If I either save the xslt or swtich to the xslt view, the icon goes
away (as expected)and I'm left with a light green line (which should
have been there in the first place). Now when I right click on the line
I can choose carry value.

Hi, neal,

I understand the problem you are describing. It is expected behavior.
The 'carry value' option only avlaible to for-each link that directly
link from source to target. If you use the for-each block modal, you
need to make another link to indicate you want to create a xsl:value-of.

In out next release update, there will be a nice feature which allow you
right click on source and drag it over to target, you will see a context
menu allow you to create repeatable link(light green for-each link), in
this case, the 'carry value' option will be avaliable on the link.

Hope this helps.

Song,

Is there any way in the current release to set for-each with
carry-value other than use two icons or by switching in and out of the
Mapper window?

In current version we automatically create for-each link only when both
the source element and target element are repeatable, you can see the
repeatable icon on the element if they are repeatable. In other cases,
if you link from source to target, the default link will be value-of
link.

So if you want to create for-each between non-repeatable elements, you
have to use for-each block in current version. And if you want to pass
value, you don't have to use another icon, just draw a link from source
to target, you will see a dark-green link which is value-of.

Take a example, you have a book element in source and Book element in
target. If both of them are repeatable, thing become very easy. just
draw a link from book to Book, a for-each link will be created and you
can see the option of 'Carry Value'. Otherwise, if you want for-each,
you have to create a for-each block and link them through this block. At
this point, you will have a xsl:for-each element, if you want to carry
value on this for-each, just draw another link from book to Book, a
value-link will be established and xsl:value-of select="." will be
created in the source.

So the answer is: to make for-each carry value in current version, you
don't have to switch in and out of the mapper window, you only need one
icon instead of two icons.

Hope this help.
