I'm new here. I would like to know if I can connect to my local
instance. The File New (DB to XML Schema) option brings up a
//localhost:1433 login. I tried //local/instancename and
(local)\instancename... without any results. Any suggestions?

Hi Jamie,

To connect to a named instance using a connection URL, use the following
URL format:

//server_name\\instance_name

NOTE: The first backslash character (\) in \\instance_name is an escape
character.

where:

server_name is the IP address or hostname of the server.
instance_name is the name of the instance to which you want
connect on the server.

This looked like it might be an answer to the question I posed on a different SQL Server connection issue.

But it doesn't work either. The message is that the instance is either invalid or not running, either of which is true.

The instance running is Dell_8400\ASPNET

According to the above post, this should work, shouldn't it?

//Dell_8400\\ASPNET

What is wrong?
