I'm not sure if I understand the problem correctly. I tried but just couldn't reproduce the problem (i.e. change of column width).
Normally, if column width is specified in a table, you don't need to do anything special to preserve the width. The widths normally do not change unless you insert/delete columns.
If you start with a table with no column width specified, the column width is dynamic (i.e. dependent on the width of column contents). In this case, if you want to set/change the width of table columns, you'll need to use property window (at lower left corner) to set/change the width attribute of table cell (TD).
In order for me to look into the problem you reported, could you give me more information, such as detailed step by step instructions for me to reproduce the problem?
