Is there any way, either using Stylus Studio or directly within the XSLT language, to globally suppress the creation of empty attributes in an entire stylesheet?

Then, using the following Source document:

<SourceElement SourceAttribute=''"/>

I could just code:

<TargetElement>
<xsl:attribute name="TargetAttribute">
<xsl:value-of select="SourceElement/@SourceAttribute"/>
</xsl:attribute>
</TargetElement>

rather than:

<TargetElement>
<xsl:if test="SourceElement/@SourceAttribute != ''">
<xsl:attribute name="TargetAttribute">
<xsl:value-of select="SourceElement/@SourceAttribute"/>
</xsl:attribute>
</xsl:if>
</TargetElement>

and it would still produce:

<TargetElement/>

instead of:

<TargetElement TargetAttribute=''"/>

I know the default behavior of using templates would accomplish this, but I prefer to use this “pull” type of XSLT for XML-to-XML mapping.

Rob,
at the best of my knowledge there is no way to automatically do what you
are suggesting; no XSLT processor will take the initiative of equating an
attribute set to an empty string to a missing attribute definition...
