If I have a template set up for L1ITEM, how would you go about numbering all of the L1ITEMs as if they were a single list?

Okay, was actually able to find something that worked with that, but now my real problem appears to be if the TOPIC doesn't surround all the SUBTASKS. Any thoughts?

Okay, so I finally figured it out.

It worked to use

<xsl:choose>
<xsl:when test="ancestor::PRETOPIC">
<xsl:number format="(1)" count="L1ITEM" from="PRETOPIC" level="any"/>
</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise>
<xsl:number format="(1)" count="L1ITEM" from="TOPIC" level="any"/>
</xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>

(is there a way to keep the tabs and formatting when posting here?)
