Hi,

I just purchased and installed SS 2009 Release 2, Build 1386e.

I have a small xQuery project created. But whenever I click on the "Preview Results" green arrow, I got a Runtime error dialog box. It said bin\Struzzo.exe, abnormal program termination.

When I click Ok, the whole SS closes.

I am very stuck. Please help.

Which XQuery Processor (see scenario dialog)?

Hi Ivan,

It is the Professional Edition.

It is using the Built-in processor.

The xquery has several files. I don't want to upload to this site. I can probably email them to you, if I have you email address.

I just tried it with Saxon 9, it ran fine on a smaller XML source. But when I run it with an XML file of about 18MB, I got the "java heap space" error.

I tried to increase the heap space in Tools / Options / Enable JVM / Parameters. I first set it to -mx256m, same error. I then set it to -mx1g, still same problem.

Hi Kam,
sorry for the delay in answering. It turns out that the option you tried to set was incorrect: the correct syntax is -Xmx256M.
Anyhow, the method you are using to bind the data is not the most efficient one, as using the doc() function requires building the entire DOM tree for the input file. If you instead use the source file as the default context item (by specifying it in the General tab of the Scenario Dialog) and change the first variable definition to be

declare variable $system := /AscendantOne/Policy;

the query runs with the default Java heap size (and a couple of seconds faster, 3.4 against 5.6)

Thanks for looking into this.

The original problem was that running the xQuery using the "built-in" processor crashes Struzzo.exe. And I am still having this problem.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, the "Abnormal program termination" message no longer shows, but replaced with a similar Runtime error, "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

Does it work for you when you use the "built-in" processor.

Aside from that, somehow my Saxon processor is working without adding the -mx256m (which BTW is the official JVM parameter for setting max heap, -Xmx256m was experimental and matured into the -mx form).

Your suggestion of not using the doc() call is faster, but these xQueries will be ran under the boundary of EMC xPression, which seems to require an external variable definition. I don't know what is the equivalent of that using your suggestion. I tried your suggestion over there, and it does not work.

Please let me know if the built-in processor works for you.

Hi Kam,
I can confirm that the built-in processor runs out of memory while parsing the XQuery and its associated module libraries; we are working on a fix to publish in the next update of Stylus Studio.

As for EMC xPression, I am not familiar with the platform, and I couldn't find any public documentation to browse for informations.
