Well, now after it starts working I still can not realize how to apply it to my project.
I do have a mockup of my old document with I have created manually using something like Prntr->Canvas->TextOut(header_left,header_top,Header); in my C++.
Now I want to save the data in xml and apply xsl-lo to obtain the same looking doc in the end.
Do I still need to calculate all the attributes of xsl manually or I can for example put the image of the existing doc in the background and draw my xsl on the top of it.
Or suppose I have a doc prototype made as jpg and I need to achieve the same view with real xml data source and xsl-fo for pdf.
Can Stylus help or I still have to calculate all my lets and tops by hands?
I do assume that I may be very green in this subject but still can not switch from the really "visual" tools I am used to.
I am used to the IDEs where I can put Label1 on the form and be sure that it will appear on the screen at the exact place.
We are mainly dealing with the self service applications where we have to count to the screen pixels.
Again. Is it a wrong place for the such kind of problems?

Hi Vladimir,
usually when designing an XSL-FO stylesheet you are not targeting a pixel-by-pixel grid, as you are generating a PDF starting from an XML data dump. Stylus can help with its XML Report module, that lets you design visually the report, and then it generates the XSL-FO that will, at runtime, produce the real PDF. If you need to exactly match a given printout, however, you will have to tweak the generated XSL-FO to move each part to the desired place in the page.

Hope this helps,
Alberto

In fact I found one tool which helps to place blocks and tables over the mockup background. Think it is not the right place to mention it. Other facilities are quite poor. But I was really surprised that you do not offer such a useful feature. For me, who is used to the stuff like Borland Builder and Visual Studio it is a usual tool.
Today it is the main obstacle preventing me from the final selection of XSL developer tool.
If I still need to tweak ALL tags manually I can write the whole xsl by hands as well.
By the way. One more stupid question.
How can I debug and /or edit my existing xml-xsl made somewhere else

Hello Vladimir
What you describe is exactly the problem I am facing ie the choice of the XSL developer tool which will enable the use of a template or mockup pdf. You mention that you have found one tool which achieves this - please, would you be prepared to share that information with me? Please contact direct to brian.allen@hmrcaspire.com if you do not wish to mention this in this forum!
Many Thanks for your anticipated help
Brian
