Jamil TaylorSubject: Previewing Documents In External Applications

When developing XSL transformations, it is very helpful to view the results in an external application (like the default web browser). There does exist an option to do this, but once it's turned on, it does it every time I preview my results. I do not need to view the results in an external app every time though, and it is a pain to turn the option on and off each time.

I suggest adding a toolbar button to preview the results in an external application. This toolboar button would perform the transformation and open the results in an external app. If this button is added, there probably is no longer a need for the aforementioned option. We would have two preview buttons -- one for the internal viewer and a new one for external apps.

Thanks for the suggestion; it seems a bit overkilling to have two preview buttons to control preview in an external application (most people don't really need to ever preview in an external application); maybe exposing the "Preview in external application" functionality as a toggle in the editor's toolbar addresses your problem, without forcing to have an additional Preview command?

A toggle button that exposes the option would do. Although I am not sure that adding a second button to open the transform in an external application would be overkill. Don't call it preview, but call it 'Open In External Application' or something along those lines. Make the icon for it different too.

Since I see differences between the internal viewer and Internet Explorer 7 for the same HTML transformation I create, I would be surprised if many people would not use this.
