John SaundersSubject: Hyphen (Dash) in XML Comment Ends Comment

To reproduce this annoyance, start typing a comment in the XML editor:

"<--"

The XML editor finishes the comment

"->"

This is first of all the wrong number of hyphens. One more is needed if I'm going to type anything in the middle.

To continue, enter two spaces and a dash, then back up to between the spaces. Then enter type a hyphenated word:

" hyphenated-"

As soon as I type the hyphen (dash), Stylus studio enters "->"!

This happens with Professional Suite 2007 build 735e.

A comment is <!--, not <--.
This could be why you are seeing the behavior you have indicated.

The "<--" was a typo. It's "<!--" which produces the problem. Please try it.

As an aside, I tried typing "<--" to see what would happen. I got as far as "<-", when Stylus Studio completed it with "->". What's that meant for?

You are right; the current behavior is incorrect, and it's unbearable when (like in your case, I believe) the "Add closing tag when creating new tag" option in Tools > Options > Editor General is checked.

We will fix this in the next maintenance package.
Thanks.

As of build 894m / WinXP dashes in comments are still acting this way when "add closing tag" option is enabled; is this still scheduled for correction? At the moment it doesn't seem possible to use a hyphen or a dash in a comment unless that option is disabled -- even going back after the comment close has been added triggers a new second (and obviously incorrect) closing --> to be added.

No need for a new topic; a fix for this issue should be part of the coming v2008 release, which will become public in less than two weeks.
