I am just evaluating Stylus and I am trying to convert an xml file to a schema xsd. I am using the XML to xml schema wizard and I get a message saying the 'Trang translator is not available'. No conversion takes place.

Hi, Gary. Can you tell us which version and which release (Help > About Stylus Studio) you are using?

Also, make sure you have a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) configured on your system.

Thanks!

I have the 2006 XML Enterprise Edition build 501h.

I loaded java after loading Stylus (I didn't know that was a pre-req).

I now have loaded:
1.5.0_06-b05 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM Sun Microsystems Inc.

Hi, Gary. A couple of other things for you to check, when you have time.

1. Verify that the Java Virtual Machine has been detected by Stylus Studio (again, back on the Help > About Stylus Studio dialog box).

2. Try the operation with one of the example files provided with Stylus Studio (books.xml).

If the problem doesn't occur with books.xml, it might be that your file contains some encoding that Trang doesn't know how to handle. If that's the case, can you send us the file you are using so we can take a look?

Thanks!

I get the same message of the 'trang translator not available' when using books.xml so I don't think the problem is with my xml file.

I have reinstalled Stylus and still the same problem.

Java seems to be recognized when opening the about window. The java virtual machine is:

1.5.0_06-b05 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM Sun Microsystems Inc.
debug mode port:8000

However, when I go to the Tools/options/Java Virtual Machine.... and hit the Auto Detect button, most fields blank out.

I am attaching a picture of the Tools/options/Java Virtural Machine window.

Gary,
if that's the information that Stylus Studio picked up when clicking auto-detect, it looks like your JVM installation didn't properly update its registry entries. Anyway, there are a couple of things that you should fix:

- You can enter "c:\sun\appserver\jdk\jre\bin\java.exe" in the "Exernal JVM > Command Line" field; that should take care of fixing the TRANG problem you have reported
- You probably want to corrent the "Java Compiler" field to reference the proper javac.exe location, rather than java.exe as it's doing now

Hope this helps,
Minollo

I am also facing the same problem. I am getting the Trang translator not available popup when I am trying to Generate XML schema from an example XML file given with the installation.

The External JVM is set correctly, but still I am facing the problem.
Is there any way to resolve this.

I am using the Stylus Studio 2007 for evaluation.

Thanks for your early response.

I got this same error, and found a solution to it.

When I opened my XML file, I got a warning about illegal chars.

When trying to Convert the XMl to XSD I got a "Trang" error.

So, I saved the XML file from Stylus, it corrected the illegal chars, and I was then able to convert the XMl to XSD.

Perhaps can I suggest that the same illegal-char validation could be used in the XML to XSD wizard?

I also got the same problem with my stylus studio, I always got the message "Trang Translator not available" I have tried saving the file in Stylus studio and tried to convert it and same thing happens. I am using Stylus Studio 2008 XML Professional Suite Release 2. Do any one know how to set the java virtual machine, I think thats were the problem started, I'm using j2re1.5.0, I also think we're going to have j2re1.4.2_17.

Please reply...Thanks

Have a look at the documentation on how to set up the JRE: http://www.stylusstudio.com/docs/v2008R2/d_start92.html

Hope this helps,
Alberto
