CC CosentinoSubject: VI (vim) keybindings
Author: CC Cosentino

I've been editing in VI/vim for ages, and find the standard keybindings a huge timesaver when editing XML.

Any chance of getting VI keybindings in the product? It wouldn't have to be full support, but the basics would be nice.

Any others interested in this?

The problem with VI is that it has the two modes of operation, while Stylus only has the "editing" mode.
So, a lot of the key bindings of VI simply don't apply (d to delete a block of lines, y to yank them...); only the Ctrl-* ones could be enabled.
Which ones would you like to see supported?

Thanks for the feedback,
Alberto

I was thinking specifically of the "other" mode ones:

d, dd, cw, dw, y, yy, p, pp, R, $, a, o, etc. (with the "number" option as well, i.e. 6dd = deletes 6 lines. G185 = goto line 185.

the search and regex replace commands are awesome too.

I guess there would need to be a different mode, activated when you hit the escape key.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, supporting those commands would require a different editing mode, and
this is something that needs some design.
I am adding your request to our database, even if with a low priority.

Thanks for the feedback,
Alberto
