Currently, if I have two open files and then drag the icon of one from the project window onto the other, the path is pasted into that spot. Unfortunately the URL that is created is the absolute URL of the local file you are working with. Often what i want is the relative URL or the absolute URL relative to a different base. It seems to me that having the ability to choose which sort of URL that get generated would be most useful.

My initial suggestion is to make use of a right-click and drag mechanism (which is common in windows apps now) where on drop a context menu comes up with the options for a absolute local URL, relative URL or custom. The first would be the default and would be the current behavior (as well as the default drag drop behavior since its set up that way). The second option would calculate the relative path (obviously only if the drop target has been saved). The third would provide a dialog that would take the name of the file and the path information and allow a custom path to be created.

Thanks.

URLs inside Stylus Studio are always absolute. So whenever you do a
drag&drop operation it is always the absolute path which is handled.

But, that shouldn't prevent you from having the flexibility that you are
looking for in relative paths, because when you drag&drop a file into the
project tree, and then you save the project file, URLs are saved inside the
project file relative to the project file location. The same thing happens
when you use a URL for an XSLT scenario: even if we always display the
absolute path, you can decide (and that's the default) to store the XML
source location as a relative path to the XSLT file.

Is that what you are trying to do, or there is something else which is not
covered by the current implementation?

Actually what I'm talking about is a little different.

If you drag a file from the project panel, into the href attribute of an import field (as an example) then stylus pastes a URL into that position. Its fact that Stylus Studio only ever creates absolute URLs that I'm contending with. In pretty much every case I can think of, using an absolute URL will be wrong, if for no other reason than you can't really export that to another machine with out changing the URL.

Since the results of dragging a file icon from the project window onto an open document window will typically be less than useful without editing the result to some extent, it seems to me that it makes good sense to change the behavior of that action so that the results can be more useful.

But that is really just my opinion.

I see what you are saying now; I wasn't thinking about drag&drop on the
editor area.

What you are saying makes sense to me. I'll add a PCR for this.

Thanks,
Minollo
