Joe HauckSubject: IE5.5 and Stylus Studio

Using Stylus Studio, I've created an XSL file that looks fine in XSL preview mode. When I view the XML file in IE5.5(with a link to the XSL file), the XML data is not displayed - only the root HTML is displayed. Any ideas?

Maybe you have generated an XML file without specifying XML in the output
method setting (Others/Params tab)? In that case the XSLT processor doesn't
output the XML PI, and IE5 might decide to interpret the file not as XML.

IE works fine with the files you've sent me on my machine (as Stylus Studio
does). Maybe it is something broken in your IE/MSXML installation?

I just created my first style sheet in stylus studio and ran into the same problem with my files -- works fine in Studio, previews fine, and IE doesn't display the data.

I checked the FAQ here and read this thread. I down loaded the attachments, and had the same problem as Joe.

I already had the latest MSXML but got a new one anyway, and upgraded IE to the latest release here. Checked it on three machines -- same result. No data when opening the file in IE.

I then attempted to open both Joe's and my files in Netscape -- NO DATA! What's going on here?

I'm only two days into my evaluation, but with the exception of this problem, Studio beats the other products we are evaluating hands down. My main concern now is why your browser (with an IE icon) displays fine and yet the IE on the same (or any of our other) machines doesn't and neither does Netscape.

An addendum to my previous, I created a second scenario and set that to use MSXML instead of the internal processor. The preview now uses IE for display and works fine. Yet, when I save the files (changing the XML to look to a second copy of the XSL created for the new scenario), it still does not show the data.

What am I missing here? Studio can send the files to IE and they work, but click on the same files, and they don't. -- wayne

What happens in this case is:
- Stylus Studio invokes MSXML to do the XSLT/XML transformation
- The result (html/xml/txt) is sent to an external IE5 window for rendering

Again, in this case the processing is supposed to happen internally to
IE5.5 (it will not work with Netscape); as MSXML invoked by Stylus Studio
seems to work for you, the fact that IE5.5 fails is quite puzzling... but
this is not a problem with Stylus Studio.

Hope this helps,
Minollo

You should try opening the .xml file; that's the one which contains the PI
which makes IE5.5 apply the specified stylesheet before rendering the document.

I don't think Netscape supports "

Let me try to explain how things work here.
When you use Stylus Studio, this is what happens:

XML document---->|
XSLT stylesheet->|--StudioXSLTprocessor-->HTML/XML/txt->IEwindowInStudio

So, the processing happens in Stylus Studio, and the IE window is used to
display the resulting XML/HTML/text from the processing.

When you open the .xml file that Joe posted in IE5.5 or later, what happens is:

- IE5.5 loads the stylesheet when it finds the PI in the XML document
- XSLT is loaded and applied to the document (the processing is done by
MSXML in IE5.5)
- the processing result is rendered by IE5.5

In this second scenario, Stylus Studio doesn't do anything; it is IE5.5
which understands it needs to load a XSLT document and which does the XSLT
processing and which renders it.
If this second scenario (which only works with IE5.5) doesn't work with
you, then IE5.5 is having troubles performing the operations detailed
above. And the only reasons I can think of are installation issues. What I
know for sure is that Stylus Studio is not responsible for those problems.
