Martha J. SmithSubject: Treatment of binary data and additional standard schema
Author: Martha J. Smith

I have a data element in an XMLSxhema that is defined as hexBinary so that it may be used for .txt .htm .jpeg .pdf data depending upon the circumstance. However, when I build an XML document on the schema and use XHTML in the contents, Stylus Studio insists on parsing the binary data.

In searching for a way around this major problem, I have wished to utilize other standard definitions besides http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema i.e. http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-media-types and for XML documents, XInclude's schema. I also prefer to work off-line most of the time - one of the features I like about Stylus Studion. How does one add these additional semi-official items to the Stylus tool set?

Thanks.

Perhaps a (small) example of what you are trying to do would help.

You do understand that hexBinary data means that the data is stored
in the XML as a series of hex digits and not as raw binary, right?
XML is a text format, and itself does not support binary data inline.

See http://www.stylusstudio.com/binary_xml.html for some ideas.

Thanks for the reference to the binary page. Another question - how would you embed XHTML samples in schema driven XML? I know how to do it in a DTD. Or, alternatively, how do I get the Mime-based solution to work in Stylus Studio?

The 'Feature Request' forum is not the right place for
this discussion.

Could you post a small example of what you want to do
in the Technical Forum?
