Subject:Create XSLT stylesheets for use with .NET Author:Thomas Allen Date:21 Jul 2009 11:18 AM
Hi
I've just purchased the Enterprise Edition 2009R2 and even though I've watched the videos I’m finding lots of things I cannot work out so sorry if quite a few questions appear from me.
I wish to use Stylus Studio to create XSLT stylesheets to use as maps for an internal application to convert custom EDI formats to XML and vice versa. Would you be able to let me know if:
1. This is possible? From browsing the web it seems 2 maps will be needed?
2. From anyone with experience here, would .net’s XslCompiledTransform be the most upto date/recommended object to use here?
3. Is there also any documentation on creating XSLT stylesheets with the gui mapper in this manner, i.e. EDI > XML? I’ve seen this document (http://www.stylusstudio.com/convert_edi_to_xml.html) but it only shows how to create a conv file, not xslt?

Hi Thomas,
1) the EDI to XML conversion is usually performed using XML Converters (btw, if you plan to use them outside the Stylus GUI you will need to buy a separate license). If the resulting XML is not in the form you need, you will need to postprocess it via an XSLT stylesheet, that you can build using XSLT Mapper (using the two XML formats as source and target schema).
To convert back from XML to EDI you must write another XSLT stylesheet converting from your custom XML format to the same format generated by XML Converters, then use XML Converters to do the XML-to-EDI conversion.
2) The XSLT generated by Mapper is plain XSLT 1.0, so XsltCompiledTransform is able to process it.
