Kirsi KontioSubject: XSL-FO editing
Author: Kirsi Kontio

We are doing a project in the Helsinki University of Technology on XSL-FO and it’s editing possibilities. Unfortunately we don’t have the opportunity to download the trial version of Stylus, but we would like to know in which way Stylus supports XSL-FO-editing?

I understood that Stylus recognizes and knows the fo-tags, which means that tag-completion and tag-menus are available also for fo-tags. Is that correct? Is the wysiwyg-editing of the formatting objects possible or do you have plans for such a feature?

Thanks in advance,

Kirsi Kontio

Why?

That's correct. It also gives you the possibility to preview the
XML->FO->PDF result inside the application automatically performing the FOP
post-processing.

I believe that's a very cool idea; but it's a *very* complicated problem,
whose solution at this point is not planned.

Because your program requires windows 2000, NT or XP, none of which we have at home (win98) and it is not allowed to install programs to the university's computers.

However, we can manage without the trial version, because your website is very comprehensive and this board is excellent. I am very impressed on the speed of your answers, they helped us a lot! Thanks again,

Kirsi

"opportunity" means not enough bandwidth for downloading ?
If this is true we could send to you the CD.

Yes our xsl editor supports auto-complete for XSL-FO tags
I don't know what you mean with "tag-menus"

Stylus supports post processing via FOP too. So if you have a stylesheet
that produces FO documents, you can run the trasformation and render the
final result with one click.

You are not the first one asking for this.
We don't have any plan to implement FO wysiwyg soon, are you ? :-)

Greetings,

I'm using Stylus 5.3. The WYSIWYG editor for XSL-FO seems to
be corrupting my Stylus installation. All I have to do is
click on the WYSIWYG tab to disable my ability to generate
correct PDF output. When I say correct, I mean output with
blocks, lists and tables as formatted output. All I get
instead is unformatted text ouput one line piled on top of
another.

Fortunately, I was able to repair my installation by doing a
quick reinstall. However, this still leaves meet a bit
curious as to whether or not I should be using WYSIWYG editor
for XSL-FO.

I understand from reading the responses to other messages
about WYSIWYG support not being available or planned. However,
that was two years ago. Has anything changed?

Thanks,
Peter Wu

Peter

The XML to HTML WYSIWYG is not design to support XSL:FO.

When you switched tab stylus asked you to change the xsl output to HTML
that's the reason why you see IE rendering the result as text rather then
an XML document.

Reset the output to XML is then only thing you should need to do to restore
the output as you expect.

FO WYSIWYG editing has become more import over the years, we are looking for
possible solutions but there is no firm plan.

Thank You
Ivan
