Hi to start I've read the w3cschool suggested tutorial: http://www.zvon.org/xxl/XSLTutorial/Books/Output/contents.html#id71 today not working. And then I've partially read the book "XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0" from Michael Kay, an optim book with every thing you need to know and very well explained.
