See this pre-bugzilla bug report (and a link there to an even earlier
report on the same subject) where I queried this behaviour and it
was confirmed that line end normalization should not happen.

Interesting.

The note is in an example, and note in the text of the definition of the function, which is odd.

Anyway, I do not think such behaviour can be guarenteed, since it depends upon what the URI resolution process does.

In my case, I get normalized line endings from the URI resolution - it returns a text stream.

The XSLT specification cannot mandate what the contents of any particular URI will look like.
