Re: Unable to get text() of node

It is obvious that something that isn't there cannot be preserved, but I don't observe the behaviour from the MSXSL parser that you and David are describing. If I run the following with Xalan or MSXSL I get the same result even when I replace strip-space by preserve-space

T:\ftemp>type josten.xml
<foo>
  <bar>This is </bar>
  text.
</foo>

T:\ftemp>type josten.xsl
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
  xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

  <xsl:template match="/">
    <foo>
      <xsl:copy-of select="foo/text()" />
    </foo>
  </xsl:template>

T:\ftemp>xslt-xalan josten.xml josten.xsl con
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<foo>

  text.
</foo>

T:\ftemp>xslt-msxsl josten.xml josten.xsl con
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?><foo>
  text.
</foo>
