Interesting, which version of MSXML are you using?

8.0.7002.0 (according to the version properties report of msxml.dll in my c:\windows\system32 directory)

So msxsl is not stripping whitespace by default? That would confirm my statement.

You've got it backwards ... msxsl strips white-space-only text nodes by default and is not preserving them, thus producing the different results from Xalan, Saxon and most other processors which are conformant in this regard.

I'm unfamiliar with David's incantations so I cannot comment on his arguments.

My incantation is a Windows Scripting Host script that is freely downloadable from the "Free resources" link through our home page linked in the trailer below. It just uses the currently loaded DLL.
