there is no way to do that in standard XSLT. Just as there is no direct
way in C to do much with a string that holds a fragment of C syntax.
in order to deal with such a thing you have to have a parser and
evaluator available at run time. Some XSLT engines have such extensions,
eg saxon:evaluate().
