Entities are expanded during the parsing stage, so at the transformation stage it doesn't matter whether you wrote " or ", they are exactly equivalent. At the serialization stage the serializer must generate well-formed XML. It could output either " or " : it can choose either as they are exactly equivalent. The serializer is very unlikely to be influenced by what the original input looked like. Mike Kay XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
