use <xsl:value-of select="./@id"> if your parser has current position at STORY, otherwise use <xsl:value-of select="STORY/@id">

This is my XML

		<AUTHOR id="xsw">Stephen King</AUTHOR>
	</STORY>
If I have a template
<xsl:template match="STORY">
	....
</xsl:template>
how can i get the id attribute of author inside that template?
