RE: parent attribute? aaargh

You can get an attribute of an ancestor.  ancestor(*) is your parent so
ancestor(*)/@id is it's id attribute.  Alternatively, ancestor(*[@id]) is
the first ancestor element that has an id attribute. I hope that helps.
