It didn't occur to me until I read your post Mike... but what is quickly becoming my favorite multi-purpose development language all started with a paper headed by Erik Meijer, et Al. entitled "Programming with Circles, Triangles and Rectangles" http://research.microsoft.com/~emeijer/Papers/XML2003/xml2003.html At various stages and in various pieces the language concepts presented in this paper have been known as X#, Xen, and Polyphonic C#.
