XML firewalls, 70k docs per second?
Network Computing has apparently given kudos to Sarvega and DataPower for XML security products. Each company has issued a press release citing a report published by Network Computing. 11 companies were invited to participate in a round of testing. DataPower, Sarvega and Reactivity accepted. 1. Sarvega: "The Sarvega XML GuardianT Gateway has consistently outperformed the market in XML Web Services threat mitigation and performance. This leadership is highlighted by the technology editors of CMP Media LLC's Network Computing in their XML Firewall Report dated May 3, 2005." http://www.sarvega.com/press.php?pressID=286 2. DataPower received the Editor's Choice award based on the "XML Threat Defense" report published in April 28, 2005. "DataPower(R), the most widely deployed network hardware for securing XML Web services, announced today that it has won Network Computing's "Well-Connected" Award for its DataPower XS40 XML Security Gateway(TM) as the leading XML Web services security solution." http://www.businesswire.com/webbox/bw.050405/251245604.htm All three of the products tested by Network Computing were 1U or 2U appliances. They didn't include a parsing and validation XML test as a yardstick to see how much overhead there was from secure XML processing. For various security-related tests (encryption, signature verification, LDAP), the DataPower, Reactivity and Sarvega appliances processed between 300 - 1100 messages per second. Another competitor (Xambala) has an XPC6050 semantic processor card that it advertises as the equivalent of 20 Xeon servers. There have been claims it processes 70,000 XML documents per second (parsing and validation, no security overhead). Has anyone experienced that level of performance with a Xambala card? ======== Ken North =========== www.WebServicesSummit.com www.SQLSummit.com www.GridSummit.com
