All, Those were some interesting facts about open-source. Especially about Linux and IBM. If IBM has plowed so much money (did I read right, about $1B?) into Linux, that therefore probably makes Linux an 'IBM product'. I'm not saying this in a derogatory sense, rather a complimentory one. Just that in the business world, saying to business people, "IBM put a $1B into Linux" gives people a lot more security than describing Linux as being the hacks of a university student. Companies like Redhat, who are definitely a very well known company with a good product, haven't exactly taken over the world so to speak. But obviously they have performed quite well financially in recent times, well enough to give the founders enough money to buy an uncramped bungalow and transportational vehicles with smooth and shiny paint. As for the ones that haven't worked, maybe they didn't have strong enough branding or a compelling enough customer proposition. In any case, the statistical certainty is that more companies will fail than will survive. In all cases, not exactly something to worry too much about.
