Not a direct answer to your question but have you looked that the WS-I (Web Services Interoperability Organisation) website http://www.ws-i.org/. This site is aimed at producing interoperability guidelines, recommended practices and some supporting resources to support Web Service implementation. One of the major documents produced is a basic profile specification for web services.
