Yesterday in Canada's TCIT (Technical Committee on Information Technology)
a post was circulated citing two news copies of what appears to be the same
article regarding this:

It certainly is a break from past practice, but many ISO and JTC1
committees have been created over the years to try and address the changing
marketplace for standards documents that has impacted on the early business
models that used to sustain the ISO machinery. Nothing in these past
committees saw the light of day.

I think W3C has done the right thing to try and nip this in the bud.

I'll be proposing a response from the Canadian member body to ISO, the
Standards Council of Canada (SCC), to obtain from ISO a copy of the formal
recommendation and understand its status. A response can then be made
directly to the recommendation and not indirectly based on news reports and
citations from other organizations.
