Bill, FWIW your example below (pretty much the same code I sent out as
well) does not translate to "serializ[ing] the DOM to XML" and then
parsing the XML again. Typical implementations (such as the Xalan
identity transformer) simply send SAX events as they walk the source
DOM, which is is close to being optimal performance-wise.
