I use them all the time to write 'ongoing'.  There are other ways I 
could accomplish this, but CDATA sections are less work, and all the 
tools support them, and I really don't see any chance of them vanishing. 
  Doesn't mean I like them, they're kinda ugly.  But so are lots of 
useful things.
